STOP PRESS: Response to our Dan Barker night has been overwhelming! We’re officially sold out now, folks, so if you don’t have a ticket for this evening remember to get in early next time.

The Big Idea is back! Put a big red ring around THURSDAY MARCH 11, the date for our next unmissable, thought-provoking event.

The whole concept of What’s The Big Idea is to deal with, well, BIG ideas. And they don’t come much bigger than this one: There is no god.

Our presenter is DAN BARKER, an internationally renowned atheist and founder of the Freedom From Religion Foundation in the US, which promotes the separation of Church and State.

For 19 years Dan was a pastor and preacher with the Assembly of God and other Christian churches. In 1984 he became an atheist and has devoted much of his time since to advancing the cause of atheism through the foundation, public forums, books and media appearances. He has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show, Good Morning America and Phil Donahue.

Among his other accomplishments, Dan is a professional pianist, computer programmer and a member of the Delaware Indian tribe of Native Americans.

The presentation he will be giving in Bundeena will be titled “Godless: From evangelical preacher to atheist.”

This one is going to sell out very quickly indeed, so please don’t delay buying your tickets (a lot of people missed out on the last What’s The Big Idea because they couldn’t get tickets).

Tickets are an absolute bargain at $35 for which you get a fabulous Chinese banquet and an extraordinary presentation from an extraordinary man.

STOP PRESS: Tickets now sold out for Dan Barker. Keep an eye out for our next event!

STOP PRESS: OUR NOVEMBER 10 FRED WATSON EVENT HAS NOW SOLD OUT!
Apologies if you missed out on tickets - this event has been incredibly popular. Keep you eyes peeled for our next event in 2010.

Meanwhile, here’s a sample of Fred in fine, scientific voice:

What’s The Big Idea is thrilled to present …

Astronomer-in-Charge of the Anglo-Australian Observatory, TV and radio personality FRED WATSON on Tuesday November 10 (7pm drinks, dinner 7.30pm) in the second of our series of sessions tackling Big Ideas.
Fred is one of those rare beings - a deadset genius who also has the rare gift of being able to communicate scientific concepts in a fresh, fun and accessible way.
In this fully illustrated, entertaining talk, Fred will tell us how scientists are beginning to realise that there’s a whole lot more to the mysterious force we call gravity than Isaac Newton ever dreamed of. This will be an unmissable night of fun and ideas.
Tickets are a frankly pathetic $30 for which you get a fabulous Chinese banquet followed by a 45-minute presentation from Fred and questions.
